My Young Professional in Mission Story

...

My name is Morenikeji, I’m a professional in the Pharmaceutical Industry and I’m proudly Nigerian Hmm… So I got to know about YPs sometime in April 2018 when a friend of mine, Idono posted pictures of a mission trip that she was a part of. At the time I’d been looking out for a missionary platform but didn’t know any.. Seeing her post was an answer to prayers. So I slid into her dm, and we spoke about what the YPs were about after which I was added to the WhatsApp group.

In the past, I was never really exposed to missions and all it was about. However, now I know there’s more to this than meets the eye. It’s a sacrifice the missionaries make year in year out to see the light of God shine in these dark areas. To see the gospel propagated. It’s a challenge to me, to you as well to make this our heart’s desire. Since I’m a newbie. I’ve attended only three events so far.1. YP Hangout (two of them now )2. Missionary trip3. After-trip session. So these programs have been awesome… For the hangout, God used that platform to provide me with friends. …..I mean good friends. It helped to firstly put faces and personalities to names I’d been seeing on the WhatsApp group and then establish a relationship with these people. The missionary program was an eye-opener for me. It helped me see beyond what I’d been seeing, especially as regards evangelism. It helped me see that even the light of Christ is what brings civilization to a place. It helped me to see sacrifice and how missionaries have left everything just to see this light penetrate dark places. All in all, it taught me to sacrifice. For the after-trip session, it was a platform to catch a burden on the people of that land and realize how I could be of help to the fields. On a personal level attending YPs meetings has helped reinforce the fact that my money is not mine. Starting my career only a year and a half ago, I found that in my spending, at the time I was earning in 2017, it seemed like giving to things of God was last in my financial action plan.

I would plan to give and then at the point of expenditure, other things would seem more important. Attending the last hangout really opened my eyes to see that God came first in my finances, and he is a reward for those who give to him and I thank God for helping me realize that early through the YPs.

For any Christian youth reading this.. I only have one thing to share. LOVE JESUS truly beyond the boundaries of rites and religion. When we truly love him, we want to see his kingdom and will be done in our lives, families, countries, and the world at large. Everything else will flow once we come into the light of this. Yours in Love, Morenikeji
